Module 6: Framing (Pt 2): The Rule of Thirds & Mise en Scène
In this module, you will be learning about the Rule of Thirds. This camera technique divides the shot into nine imaginary sections by drawing two horizontal and two vertical lines within your frame. Here is an example: Rocky Mountain Park Ranger The sections create reference points and act as guidelines for framing the image. The Rule of Thirds is extremely valuable because it allows you to move away from placing your subject in a boring, dead-center position. By placing the subject off-center, you can create an exciting mise en scène or an opportunity for advertisement with your business logo. But perhaps the most beneficial aspect of this technique is the ability to convey more depth and emotion into your shot. Figure 6.1 Rule of Thirds, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
